Privacy Policy for Nour

Who we are

What data we collect

• Anonymous device identifier: When you first open the app, we create an anonymous account for your device (via Firebase Authentication's anonymous sign-in). This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or phone number unless you choose to provide them.
• Approximate location (optional): If you choose to share your location, we use your device's approximate (coarse) GPS coordinates to calculate accurate prayer times for where you are and to schedule prayer-time notifications. Your coordinates are sent to the Aladhan API (see "Third-party processors" below) to retrieve prayer times, and are stored on your device to schedule notifications. We do not store your coordinates on our servers, and you can decline location sharing and pick a city instead, or use Mecca times.
• Profile information you provide: name, city/country, gender, and stated intent — entered during onboarding or in Settings, used only to personalize your experience (e.g. how the AI addresses you, which city's prayer times to show).
• Chat messages and shared content: Messages you send to Nour's AI companion, and any video links you share for reflection/analysis, are sent to our backend and stored in our database (Firebase Firestore) so your conversation history can be shown back to you across sessions.
• Usage data: Basic app analytics (Firebase Analytics) to understand feature usage and crash reports.

How we use your data

• To generate AI companion replies and video reflections (see "Third-party processors" below).
• To show you your own chat history and reading progress.
• To enforce a daily free-usage limit.
• To improve the app.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use your chat content for advertising.

Third-party processors

To provide the app's features, the content you send is processed by:

• Google Gemini (Google) — generates AI companion replies and video-reflection analysis.
• Groq — transcribes audio from videos you share, to enable analysis.
• Firebase (Google) — authentication, database (Firestore), analytics.
• Aladhan API — prayer times, based on the city/country or approximate GPS coordinates you provide.
• quran.com API — Quran verse text and translations.

Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy terms; we only send the minimum necessary (e.g. your message text, or the video's audio/transcript) to perform the requested feature.

Data retention and deletion

Chat history and shared-content analysis are retained so you can revisit past conversations.

To delete your data: open Nour, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account, and confirm. This permanently and immediately deletes your chat history, saved preferences, and usage records from our database (Firebase Firestore), and deletes your anonymous authentication identity. This action cannot be undone.

If you're unable to use the in-app option, you can request deletion by emailing 52emre19@gmail.com from the device you used the app on (or with any identifying details you can provide); we will delete your associated records within 30 days.

Children's privacy

Nour is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required by your country's law), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Sensitive content notice

Nour is a spiritual-support companion, not a medical, psychological, or emergency service. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a licensed professional, a crisis helpline in your country, or emergency services — Nour is not a substitute for professional help.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
